Wayanad – My Journey Through Hidden Wonders
As a Wayanadan by heart, I have always felt a deep connection to the green valleys, misty peaks, and secret trails of my homeland. But this time, I decided to explore Wayanad not just as a local, but as a traveler, photographer, and storyteller—capturing hidden corners that even many locals overlook. My latest journey took me to two of the region’s most magical spots: Chembra Peak and Nellarachal.
Chembra Peak – Touching the Clouds
The day began early, with my camera packed and heart eager for adventure. Chembra Peak, the highest in Wayanad, has always been a dream location for photographers. The trek starts with a gentle climb, but as you go higher, the path becomes a challenge—rewarding you with views that make every step worth it. The highlight, of course, is the famous heart-shaped lake, nestled midway to the peak. Surrounded by rolling meadows and often veiled in mist, it’s a place that feels straight out of a dream. I captured the reflections in the water, the sweeping views of Wayanad’s valleys, and the ever-changing moods of the mountain.
Reaching the summit, I was welcomed by a 360-degree view of endless hills merging into the horizon. The wind was strong, the clouds seemed close enough to touch, and the sense of peace was beyond words. Standing there, I realized why Chembra is not just a trek—it’s a spiritual experience.
Nellarachal – Wayanad’s Serene Backwater Paradise
While Chembra Peak is a well-known name, Nellarachal remains one of Wayanad’s most underrated gems. Tucked away near Karapuzha Dam, Nellarachal is a tranquil village surrounded by water on three sides. The moment I arrived, I felt as if time had slowed down. The calm waters reflected the surrounding greenery like a mirror, and the only sounds were the gentle splash of oars from a distant boat and the songs of birds.
As a photographer, Nellarachal is a paradise. The golden light of sunset painted the waters in shades of orange and gold, while fishermen’s silhouettes created perfect frames. I walked along the banks, meeting locals who shared stories about the changing seasons, fishing traditions, and how the backwaters have been their lifeline for generations.
Capturing Wayanad Through My Lens
Every trip I make in Wayanad teaches me something new—not just about the land, but about myself. Photography here is more than clicking a picture; it’s about preserving a feeling, a mood, a story. From the rugged climb of Chembra to the calm waters of Nellarachal, Wayanad is a blend of adventure and peace, thrill and stillness.
For travelers, my advice is simple—don’t just visit the tourist spots. Take the lesser-known trails, speak to the locals, and let the land guide you. Wayanad has secrets that only reveal themselves to those who truly look.
As I returned home, my memory card was full, but more importantly, my heart was too. Wayanad isn’t just a place I live in—it’s a place that lives in me.
